The glossary: every term on this site, plainly
Estimate, allotment, docket, beat, bill of materials — the words this site and this trade use, each defined in plain language and linked to its page.
One page for the words
Every term this site uses, defined in a sentence or two, in the plainest words available — grouped by where the word lives, with a link to the page that owns it.
Software vocabulary is a fog vendors profit from; this page is the fan.
The selling words
Enquiry — a person who showed interest, recorded: name, number, what for, and where he heard of you.
The unit everything else is built on.
Visitor record
the enquiry's lightest form: the walk-in captured before any deal exists. → Walk-ins that leave a trace
Enquiry source
the channel that produced the enquiry, recorded at capture, so marketing money can be judged by conversions. → Where enquiries come from
Estimate / quotation
the same document; this site says estimate. The priced offer, with images on the lines in these trades. → Estimates with images
Revision
a new dated version of an estimate; the old version stays on record, and the latest is unmistakable.
Solution estimate
one clean price for a whole job (a kitchen, a bathroom) with the full itemised scope generated beneath it. → Solution estimates
Follow-up
a dated, owned promise to speak to a customer again. → The customer who did not come back
Lost reason
why a closed enquiry did not buy, recorded in a field; the shop's cheapest research.
Guided tour / QR catalogue
the QR beside a display or on a card that opens your range on the customer's own phone and records the visit. → The guided tour
The order words
Order management — everything between the yes and the delivery: stages, stock, proof.
The industry also sells this as an "order management system"; the term has its own page. → What an order management system is
Allotment
stock reserved against a specific order, so two orders cannot promise the same box.
Checking
the physical verification of picked goods against the order's lines, by a named person, before packing. → The mismatch caught in your godown
Packing
goods boxed with identity: box numbers tied to the order, contents listed.
Dispatch
the goods leaving, on record: vehicle, docket photographed, receiver's name and number. → Proof of what left
Docket
the transporter's consignment slip; the paper that proves what was handed to the truck.
Installation acceptance
the customer's signed close at handover, taken on the phone, releasing the balance without argument. → Installation, recorded and accepted
Bill of materials
the full component list beneath a solution — every channel, hinge and sheet; the trade often shortens the phrase, this site does not.
The stock words
Stock audit — counting the godown against the book, blind and in motion.
→ Stock audit, without the shutdown
Dead stock — stock past saving at full price: counted, priced and cleared with pictures, or quietly paying rent. → Dead stock, counted and cleared
Audit trail — the record of who did what, when, on any entry — the difference between a question and an interrogation. → Who did what, when
The channel words
Dealer portal
the login where your dealers punch and track their own orders, crudely, in their own words. Dealers only — end customers do not order here. → The dealer portal
Beat
a field rep's planned route of dealer visits for the day or week. → The field, on record
Scheme
a declared incentive for dealers: slabs, period, reward — settled from order records. → Dealer schemes
Secondary sales
your dealer's onward sale to his customer; primary is yours to him.
Experience centre
the brand's floor where nothing is sold: demand is created there and fulfilled by dealers. → We have an experience centre
Attribution
recording every contributor to a sale — salesperson, professional, contractor, referral — so each is counted. → The people around the sale
The software words
CRM · ERP · sales software · MIS — each has a full plain-language page: → CRM, ERP and sales software · MIS reports
